This is an invited talk to set the stage for contributed presentations and discussion in the session “What’s Wrong with Microphysics in Climate Models?”, with details TBD in consultation with the session conveners. However, the topics discussed will be:
* How can we use global models to diagnose and prioritize processes-oriented observational constraints?
* How do we use model hierarchies from laboratory to global climate when microphysics is parameterized in most (all?) of them?
