The coastal interface, where terrestrial and marine realms converge, presents a critical yet understudied Earth system grand challenge. This study is a holistic, integrated systems approach to bridge the gap between observations, tackling the grand challenge of understanding flow and exchange across this dynamic zone. It contains an assessment of the current scientific and technical landscape, develops a system architecture to address this challenge, and defines a mission-to-information landscape for supporting informed management and policy evaluation.
