Talk
(Invited)
In this overview presentation, I will first briefly discuss the different types of blocking, how blocking is identified in models, and how blocking has varied historically. The main part of the talk will then present multi-model assessments of how blocking is represented in different generations of model intercomparison projects, especially CMIP6, and highlight some examples of how blocking representation and predictability has been improved through increases in resolution in the atmosphere and ocean, and parameterisation development. Blocking projections will also be presented.
