Submit ocean science priority ideas for the next Presidency

Are you a scientist interested in ocean science policy? Do you have ideas for future ocean science priorities for the next Presidency?

At the 2016 Ocean Sciences Meeting in February, the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, the American Geophysical Union, US CLIVAR, and Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography held an event titled "Teeing Up Transition: Crafting Recommendations for Ocean Science Priorities in a New Administration." The session focused on surveying the ocean science community and its stakeholders regarding the issues and themes they would like to see prioritized in the next administration. This lead to a robust discussion towards developing recommendations.

The organizations are still seeking input from an even wider audience of ocean stakeholders and scientists. If you would like to contribute your recommendation, now is the time to do so! Please submit your requests in the form of broader themes or goals, followed by a few specific actions to accomplish them. For example:

Theme: Extreme Events and Impacts Preparedness:
Recommendations:
- Increase research and awareness of the ocean's role in drought, heat waves, and cold outbreaks by ______.
- Improve our monitoring of earthquakes and tsunamis by ______.
- Increase our capacity to link non-coastal communities to coastal extreme events by ______.

Following the submission period, COL, AGU, and US CLIVAR will be composing a transition document which will be distributed to both the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates. Please submit your contributions by close of business May 13th to policy@oceanleadership.org. This is a critically important time to contribute your voice and ensure that the ocean remains a top priority for the next Administration. Thank you for your feedback!
