This Variations issue explores the science of wildfire prediction across timescales, from real-time detection and hours-to-days fire spread forecasting, to subseasonal-to-seasonal outlooks and long-term climate drivers, while highlighting the persistent gaps in fuel and wind observations and the need for closer collaboration between researchers and the stakeholders who use their forecasts.
