Serving on the US CLIVAR Pacific Implementation Panel, the POS Panel, and then as Co-Chair of the POS Panel proved to be among the most illuminating and rewarding experiences of my scientific career. US CLIVAR brings together countless experts in observational, computational, and theoretical climate sciences to discuss and establish consensus on what topics require the most attention for improving our understanding of the climate system and for exploiting that knowledge for practical societal applications. These US CLIVAR meetings and activities have greatly expanded my research interests and capabilities and given me a much broader view of how our scientific community functions and thrives. This service has also firmly connected me to a lively and diverse group of scientific colleagues, many of whom have become close friends. I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve and look forward to the many new advances in climate research that will be kindled by the US CLIVAR community.
