Broadening Earth System Research Across Scales with High-Resolution Modeling Workshop Data Access

-

Invitation to Explore HR Climate Model Output Ahead of the Workshop

We invite prospective participants to begin engaging with high-resolution climate model output in advance of the meeting.

To support early analysis and discussion, we are making available curated datasets from the MESACLIP high-resolution CESM1 ensemble and a companion standard resolution CESM1 ensemble:

A set of gridded global monthly variables from the MESACLIP 10-member ensemble and companion 40-member standard resolution ensemble are available via the Globus Guest Collection High-Resolution Modeling Workshop MESACLIP dataset. This dataset can be used to evaluate trends simulated by the high resolution CESM against observed trends. The data has been regridded to a regular lat-lon grid of 1° for convenience. Identical variables from a 20+ member ensemble performed with the same version of CESM, but configured and run at the standard nominal resolution of 1° are included. Together these ensembles can be used to evaluate the impact of increased spatial resolution in the simulation of climate variability and change.

An additional set of curated gridded CESM-HR global 6-hourly variables of key variables used to identify and track extreme weather events is also made available via the Globus Guest Collection CESM-HR Extreme Weather Risk dataset. The data has been regridded to a regular lat-lon grid of 0.25° for convenience.

Both datasets are accessible via Globus Guest Collections for fast, secure, and reliable data transfer, without requiring authentication.

Additional high-resolution CESM output is also available through the MESACLIP project for those interested in exploring beyond these curated subsets.

If your team would benefit from adding any additional variables, please request them via this form. We will do our best to accommodate any reasonable requests to regrid available, monthly variables on a single model level.
