Variations webinar on November 14
Building on a recent workshop, the next edition of Variations will be joint with the Ocean Carbon Biogeochemistry Program looking at western boundary current regions of the ocean, which have characteristics ideal for the study of biophysical interactions and carbon cycle processes. The authors of the articles will be giving a webinar on Tuesday, November 14 at 1:00 pm ET.

Abstracts due Feb 28 for International AMOC Science Meeting
On July 24-27, 2018, scientists will join together to exchange ideas and develop a better understanding of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) and its influence on weather, climate, and ecosystems. The meeting will take place in Coconut Grove, Florida. Abstract submissions are due February 28.

New task team vice-chairs for the US AMOC Science Team will begin their leadership terms in November 2017 to guide the next two years of activities.

IV International Conference on El Niño-Southern Oscillation
Abstracts are now being accepted for an international conference on ENSO in a Warmer Climate. The goal of the conference is to review progress on the science of ENSO with a focus on examining the range of ENSO “flavors.”

Tropical Widening: What, When, Where (and Why)
On October 13, UCAR's University Community Programs will host a webcast featuring the co-chairs for the US CLIVAR Changing Width of the Tropical Belt Working Group. This talk will highlight recent findings on how and why the boundary of the tropics has been moving poleward. The webcast will begin at 12:00pm MT.

Call for new US CLIVAR working groups
Requests are now being accepted for up to one new US CLIVAR-sponsored working group for 2018. Submissions are encouraged from the US climate science community. All documents must be submitted by October 12, 2017. The next call for working groups will be in September 2018.

Apply by October 6: Ocean mesoscale eddy workshop
On February 17-18, US CLIVAR will host a workshop to create a shared understanding of ocean mesoscale eddy interactions with the atmosphere. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the 2018 Ocean Sciences Meeting in Portland, Oregon, and limited to 50 participants. Applications are due October 6.
