Highlights from the US AMOC Science Team meeting

For three days, members and collaborators of the US AMOC Science Team met in Santa Fe to discuss advances in our understanding of the overturning circulation. Over 60 oral and poster presentations can be found on the website, along with highlights from the discussion. Also, a digital story is available, which captures the progression of the meeting.

Climate Process Team article in Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society

The Climate Process Team on Internal-Wave Driven Ocean Mixing has published an article on recent advances in the understanding of internal-wave driven turbulent mixing in the ocean interior, along with new parameterizations for global climate ocean models and their climate impacts.

The 2017 spring edition of Variations is themed: "A case for observing the deep ocean." This edition highlights the existing “state-of-the-art” methods to measure the deep ocean, some of the scientific insights that have already been gained from these observations, and new methodologies and technologies to expand the network of deep observations. Apply to attend the Ocean Carbon Hot Spots Workshop, taking place at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute on September 25-26, 2017. The goal of the workshop is to develop an interdisciplinary research community that will facilitate a better understanding of carbon uptake and storage in western boundary current regions with an emphasis on the Kuroshio Extension.

Now being hosted biennially, the US CLIVAR Summit will bring together the members of the Scientific Steering Committee and its three implementation Panels, agency managers, and invited speakers to review progress, identify opportunities, and develop strategies to advance program goals. The meeting will be held August 8-10 in Baltimore, Maryland.
